$163K saved with zero added workload, here's how Mansfield Plumbing did it

With a four-person logistics team managing freight across 1,500 delivery locations, Mansfield had little capacity to absorb operational workload. Mansfield needed more competitive rates, a wider range of carrier options, and reliable shipment information to support its commercial team. Nuvocargo expanded Mansfield's carrier network, took on day-to-day freight execution, and unified FTL and LTL visibility within our proprietary Control Tower.

Mansfield needed to cut freight costs across a fragmented outbound network, and it had a four-person logistics team to do it. Meanwhile, production was shifting from the US to Mexico, placing new demands on an operation already working under several constraints:

  • Commercial representatives relied on operations for shipment updates, turning every routine customer inquiry into another task for the logistics team.
  • Cutting freight spend was essential, but the team had limited resources to manage a fragmented network of providers.
  • Without a transportation management system or the tools and experience to manage multiple freight providers, adding suppliers meant more manual coordination.
  • The lack of a centralized system made it difficult to consolidate orders and plan loads across 1,500 delivery locations.

Nuvocargo began by visiting Mansfield's Ashland and Henderson locations to understand how the commercial and operations teams worked. Those conversations shaped the Control Tower features that give commercial representatives access to the shipment information they need to respond to customers faster and more accurately.

To improve domestic full truckload (FTL) rates and service, Nuvocargo onboarded additional freight providers and introduced a structured load tendering process. This gave Mansfield more supplier options with Nuvocargo managing the coordination.

Nuvocargo also supported negotiations with less-than-truckload (LTL) brokers to expand the available network. Bringing LTL and FTL shipment visibility into Control Tower gave commercial and operations teams one place to find the information they needed.

The teams stay aligned through weekly meetings and monthly business reviews. Customized reports track financial provisioning, shipment activity, and savings, with deeper analysis for annual planning and special projects.

Mansfield completed its production transition to Mexico, with inbound shipments averaging four days in transit. Nuvocargo coordinated customs, carriers, and other providers to support consistent delivery.

Commercial representatives can now provide shipment updates directly to customers, reducing their dependency on operations. They have access to the information they need while sensitive operational data remains restricted, freeing the logistics team from routine status requests.

Mansfield's carrier network expanded from three to ten: LTL carriers increased from one to four, and FTL carriers from two to six. The additional options improved capacity availability and delivered rates consistently below mid-market levels.

Freight savings reached $163K in 2025 and a further $55K so far in 2026. Mansfield gained access to a broader carrier network without a significant increase in the operational work required to manage it.

Most companies think adding more carriers means adding more headaches and emails. Our process with Mansfield proved that by nesting a broader carrier network inside a single Control Tower platform, a small logistics team can command 3x supplier options without altering their daily headcount or workflow.

The next priorities are:

  • Load building optimization by consolidating orders into multi-stop FTL or LTL loads.
  • Automate load tendering, carrier awards, and appointment scheduling to confirm delivery appointments faster.
